Who comes to Catoctin?

Couples, singles, families. Young folk, old folk, and those in the middle all become part of the Catoctin community. Enjoy an unplugged time with real people! That's the magic of the BFMS Catoctin Weekend.

The Catoctin music and dance weekend getaway gives dancers and musicians of all ages a changce to attend a family-friendly weekend featuring folk music, crafts and dancing in a beautiful mountain setting.

You don't have to play an instrument, sing, or dance to have fun at the Catoctin Mountain Weekend. But bring your instrument if you have one - even if you don't think you're very good. Catoctin is a great place to jam with friendly musicians and to learn from more experienced players.

What do we do?

Campers lead activities. See last year's program. Past workshops included dance, instrumental, singing, craft, yoga, juggling and storytelling.

Dance contra, square, English, and international dances on Friday and Saturday night.

Play with the Catoctin Open Band.

Swim in the pool, hike up the Cunningham Falls, climb on the rocks, read a book.

Walk the 25 miles of hiking by trails with scenic mountain vistas, listen to the birds, go fishing, swap recipes from the Friday night potluck, start a jam session.

accommodations

What are the accommodations at Camp Misty Mount?

Historic log cabins built circa 1935 by the WPA with electric lighting (but no outlets).

Modern bath houses with lots of water and indoor plumbing.

Meals are family style in our large indoor dining/dance hall with vegetarian and omnivore options, prepared by campers under the guidance of an experienced chef.

Snacks and hot and cold drinks are always available.

volunteer work

How do you make it so affordable?

It's an all-volunteer weekend.

All campers sign up for two short jobs when they arrive, that each take an hour or less. This is also a fun part of the weekend with good conversation and sometimes singing!

Work scholarships are available so that all may attend. For information email  catoctin at bfms.org

Workshops will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

Please download our 2015 Catoctin flier for more information.

For more information and pictures we also have a Power Point presentation, which you can download here. (Large file - 18 MB)
